- Dec. 30, 2012 - ATLANTA --
RIMSHOT Urban Musical is different from most theatrical productions because the cast was selected before the script had been written. The producers, Angela Carswell and Reggie Cason, have been active supporters of independent performing artists in Atlanta—who, in some cases, are not adequately recognized because they don’t adhere to the limitations, and in some cases, shortcomings of mainstream music. "We have a special appreciation for these artists because of their authenticity and courage to bring positivity through their art", says Reggie Cason, the Creative Director and co-Producer on the project.
RIMSHOT Urban Musical was initially inspired by Chong Kim and Jada Pinkett Smith who work tirelessly to bring awareness to human trafficking. It tells to the dynamic story of "Jada", a young, vibrant lady who is being tempted by the lures of the quick (and often demoralizing)
route to fame. The story is suitable for all ages and will inevitably bring awareness to the growing epidemic of human trafficking—
but not as a literal, heavy translation on stage.
"We are socially responsible theater! Our intention is to launch a national tour, targeting every major city identified as a hub for human trafficking,"
says Angela Carswell, Executive Producer and Playwright. "We started in Atlanta at the 14th Street Playhouse and we've been so well received, we are planning a series of shows in 2013 and beyond. On March 30, 2013, we will introduce RIMSHOT Urban Musical to Macon, Georgia at the historic Douglass Theater".
The creative team is actively seeking advertisers, sponsors and community partners to support the movement. For additional details, visit www.RimshotProduction.com, call 678-306-3616 or follow @officialRimshot.
