Follow on Google News | James Sherman Krav Maga & Fitness Interviewed for New Book PublicationJames Sherman From James Sherman Krav Maga & Fitness has provided a unique and revealing contribution to a new book publication entitled, "A Real World Martial Arts Guide: Featuring a Revealing Interview with James Sherman."
Excerpts from the interview found in - A Real World Martial Arts Guide Q.) Can you explain, in your own words, what Krav Maga style of martial arts actually is? Mr. Sherman - Krav Maga is the Israeli self defense system originating in Europe in the 1930's. The state of mind is street survival which includes training your mind and body to use all strikes, any weapon of opportunity, awareness, avoidance and de-escalation. This is the training required to defend yourself in an instant against any attack. Q.) How long have you trained in this form of martial arts? Mr. Sherman - I started training in Israeli Krav Maga in 2005 when I met David Kahn, Chief US Instructor of the Israeli Krav Maga Association at his book signing at David Barton Gym in New York City. I trained twice a week for an hour in Manhattan and 2 Saturdays a month for 3 hours near Princeton, NJ with top instructors, law enforcement and military including US Marines Close Quarters Combat Instructors, IDF Special Forces Soldier of the Year, Nir Maman and detectives. Q.) Is this the only form of martial arts you teach? Mr. Sherman - Krav Maga is the only martial art that I teach. I have studied a small amount of wrestling, boxing, and Hapkido. The many years that I spent playing and training in full contact football as a division 1 state champion for MSJ and Rutland in Vermont, and as a linebacker at Boston University helped shape the core of martial art philosophy. Fitness in mind and body, trying your best, goal setting and accomplishing goals are fundamental disciplines. Q.) Is there anything you can add about Krav Maga that will help a student have a better understanding about this form of martial arts? Mr. Sherman - A student of Krav Maga should be balanced in their own personal training. Think of your family and friends. Try your best. Try to train in Israel. Try to avoid violence. Try to deescalate a bad situation if you have to do anything to survive a worst case scenario. News Flash!!
