GeckoCap GeckoCap is a small, colorful, and smart button that is easily added to inhalers, and it allows parents, families, and doctors to monitor their child’s asthma. The GeckoCap glows when the next dose is due. The GeckoCap can be seamlessly integrated into everyday life. The inhaler tracking capability is connected to a gamification platform that encourages and teaches children to self-manage their asthma. The notification system sends updates to caregivers when the inhaler prescription might need to be refilled. Data is securely transmitted and stored in the cloud. Parents and doctors can monitor usage on their phones, tablets, or computers. “GeckoCap changes the game for asthma,” said Gecko Health Innovations CEO and Founder Yechiel Engelhard, MD. “Our platform leverages mobile technologies, cloud computing, and reward mechanisms to empower families and their children in their own health.” GeckoCap’s proprietary technology is ultra low-power and wireless, enabling simple setup and automatic syncing of data without recharging. “The design of the GeckoCap stems from our personal and professional experience with pediatric asthma,” said CTO and Co-Founder Mark Maalouf. “We have many friends with asthma, and who have children with asthma. After speaking with them, we know how hard it is to deal with children suffering from a chronic condition.” The data from the GeckoCap solution could also advance public health research by allowing clinicians and researchers to monitor asthma treatment compliance. “Medical centers have already started to design trials with us, and pediatricians are excited about this new opportunity” According to Engelhard, “the GeckoCap will be available soon and for a limited time through a crowdfunding campaign. This is a great opportunity for a small startup like us, which doesn’t yet have formal marketing channels but which sees huge demand from the market. Parents and doctors are ecstatic about the product, and the crowdfunding project will allow us to manufacture and deliver much earlier than we otherwise could”.
