PRLog - Dec. 28, 2012 - The trend in United states for last 5 decades has been to buy engines only from Junk Yards / Salvage Yards. Places like Houston, Los Angeles, Atlanta etc have around 150 junk yards scattered all around. Most people go to junk yards without thinking of the risk involved. We all know that " Junk " in English means "scrap". Some people learn the hard way. In tough economic conditions people ruin their engines of barely 2-3 year old vehicles just because of a simple unavoidable reason i.e they ran without oil. We have seen people looking for expensive vehicles for example 2005 up Honda Odyssey EXL grade. This engine runs somewhere around $2000 and they are happy to save $100-$200 even if they are sold with barely 30 days warranty. Knowing that fact that no junk yard will ever test an engine, people still buy from salvage yards. This scenario is slowly changing. This article is dedicated for those who need good running USED HONDA ENGINES or engines for their Acura, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Dodge....or be it any model. This article should warn them from buying from junk yards. We want people to remember that no junk yard will ever test an engine for them.
Salvage Yards have multiplied over last few years because this is the easiest business to be in if you a bit capital. We want people to remember that average mileage driven in United States is around 30,000-40,000 miles so engine or transmission from a 2002 model vehicle which is 10 years old may have around 300,000 miles. Do you think a 300,000 mile engine will be good ? Keeping an important fact in mind that no junk yard will ever test an engine and 99% sell with just 30 days warranty. Most warranties offered by them are meaningless because I have seen at many local junk Yards in Los Angeles area where they just offer exchange if item is defective and if they don't stock the item, they will not give a refund but will issue a credit. This actually translates into " No Warranty at all " So Beware of Salvage yards !
There are many options that offer better value for money and greater satisfaction. We recommend buying Honda Engines imported from Japan. Although there are very few vendors importing these engines but they are dependable. They meticulously test every engine. Engines imported from Japan have around 40-50K miles because of strict Transportation laws in Japan. We have run a detailed analysis of successful importers. One of the leading importer who has their own network in Japan is Engine World USA of Houston, Texas. They have reported less than 2% failure rate on Japanese engines sold in 2012 ( as of Dec 15, 2012). This option by any means offers greater protection and value on investment. Therefore we must banish the salvage yards. They are fine for auto parts and small components but not for Engines & Transmissions.
