The Secretary General position is currently held by Ban Ki-moon from South Korea. He is the eighth person to hold the position and is now serving his second term. Hyundai collaborated with Stoof International, who specializes in armoring vehicles, to create a stretched version of the luxury Hyundai Equus sedan. The vehicle made its debut at the 2012 Moscow Auto Show before it was given to the Secretary General.
The armored Equus limousine weighs 8,488 pounds and comes powered by a 5.0: Tau V8 engine, also found in the commercial Equus model. With the work from Stoof International, the Secretary Generals’ Equus is able to stop rounds from assault rifles of up to a 7.62x51 caliber, and has been given a VR7 rating.
The normal 2013 Hyundai Equus is a full-size luxury sedan available in two trim levels with a starting MSRP below $60,000. The vehicle is powered by a 5.0L V8 engine capable of 429 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. In the interior, it provides high levels of comfort with features such as heated reclining rear seats with foot rests and innovative technological advances such as a knob-based electronic control center that can operate navigation with real-time traffic updates and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. The vehicle also features a 17-speaker Lexicon audio system.
