Laser Maze Challenge Coming To Quassy Amusement Park

Dec. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – It may look like a scene out of a science fiction movie, but it’s reality.

 A darkened room filled with eye-popping green lasers, crisscrossing in a pattern that appears to make it impassable.

 Your mission: maneuver through the web of light beams in a race against time.

 Quassy Amusement Park will introduce the Laser Maze Challenge™ for the 2013 season, park officials announced today. The new attraction will be located in Quassy’s huge redemption arcade building in the heart of the lakeside facility.

 “The laser maze will be an exciting addition to our attractions lineup,” Quassy President Eric Anderson said. “We spent a great deal of time researching this particular unit and it has been highly successful at existing locations.”

 Park officials were able to see the latest working edition of the laser maze during the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo in Orlando, Fla., recently.

 “It will be a real hit with our guests,” said George Frantzis II, a Quassy owner. “We had to opportunity to meet with the manufacturer at the IAAPA Expo and see all of the working components in the unit being demonstrated at the show. This is a real state-of-the-art family attraction.”

 The Quassy maze will incorporate a unique theme, now being devised by the park’s marketing and art departments.

 The pay-as-you-play attraction integrates music, sound and lighting effects as each player navigates around the laser beams to beat the clock. If a beam of light is broken, that’s OK, as players are simply penalized with time added to their individual score. The lower the score, the better.

 Each mission is finished when the player hits the “mission complete” button at the end of the maze.

 “Not only is a great deal of fun for the players, but also spectators,” Anderson noted. “Large flatscreen TVs will broadcast the action inside the laser maze so those waiting outside can watch. There are all sorts of other exceptional components incorporated into the unit, such as a feature to download a video of your journey through the maze. Being a timed attraction, it will also generate a great deal of repeat play.”

 The new attraction is being provided by Funovation of Longmont, Colo.

 The laser maze will open on April 27 as Quassy kicks off its 105th season. The park is also doubling the size of its water park for 2013 with the addition of three new slides and an interactive kiddy splash pad. The water park and Quassy Beach open for their summer season on Saturday, May 25.

Quassy Amusement Park features more than two-dozen rides and attractions, including the award-winning “Wooden Warrior” roller coaster. The park also offers boat rides, games, restaurant and free entertainment.

 Birthday parties, company outings, church picnics, family reunions and other catered events are currently being booked through the park office.
