Dec. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Statistics (http://www.statisticbrain.com/new-years-resolution-statistics/) show that as few as 8% of people actually succeed in keeping their New Year’s Resolutions throughout the year. What’s even worse is that when the next year comes around, they end up beating themselves up with last year’s shards of broken promises. Why? What makes resolutions so hard to sustain? Vicki Dello Joio, Qigong master teacher and author of The Way of Joy: An Evolutionary Process to Awaken Inspiration, Focus Intention and Manifest Fulfillment, offers these observations.

“The truth is, New Year's resolutions fail because so much of the time, people make resolutions in their heads — ones that don't resonate in their bodies. We try to make them happen through that old paradigm trap, ‘Mind over Matter’,” says Dello Joio, founder of The Way of Joy Spiritual Fitness Program.

“Bruce Lee once said, ‘Don't think, feel!’ and he was right! Whatever the changes you want to see — whether in your business, health, personal relationships or creative life — you have to feel it to see it. In other words, the secret to making resolutions that stick is to actually seed them in your body, not just in your mind.”

A martial arts practitioner for over 40 years Dello Joio initially began her studies as a way to protect herself on the street. She soon discovered there was much more to the arts than she had realized and began to look at how these “qi practices” might apply in our daily lives beyond self-defense.

According to Dello Joio, in Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as the ancient Chinese health practices called qigong, there is no real separation between mind and body. “So it is only through the embodiment of your thoughts, that you become the vehicle to make them happen in ‘real time’.  When your body, thoughts, feelings and behavior are aligned, your energy becomes open, expansive, and assertive. You’re not fighting yourself anymore and you become unstoppable.”

According to a recent article in the Huffington Post, (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/23/new-years-resolution-stick-work_n_2294066.html), people often don’t actually LIKE the resolutions they make. Losing weight, having more discipline, going to the gym implies a kind of stern rigor that, for a lot of people, is not a lot of fun.  So Dello Joio recommends that you take a moment to be sure your resolutions feel good as well as sound good. “Then take them for a walk, to Yoga class or the gym, or dance them out with some of your favorite music blaring. Or include them when you make love. Or practice qigong. Just put them in your body. Your body never lies. If you're not "all in," then chances are you probably won't go "all out" and your resolutions become dead in the water.”

Dello Joio is offering a free ½ day training on how to go From Resolutions to Results 2013! (http://www.wayofjoy.com/flame/index.html) in the Bay Area on Dec 30. She also works with a select number of private clients (http://www.wayofjoy.com/classes-workshops.html) as well as speaking and teaching across the country.
