PRLog (Press Release) -
Dec. 24, 2012 - Like many fields of endeavor entertainers come and go. This is especially so in the very competitive New York entertainment market. After all, how many people can claim the kind of entertainment longevity enjoyed by such legends as the likes of Tony Bennett and Johnny Mathis for instance. John Cannella, known professionally as Johnny The Oldies Singer, can appreciate the type of dedication and devotion it takes to accomplish such a feat. In fact Johnny this year celebrated his 50th year as a Long Island NY entertainer. Johnny, who had his start as an acapella group lead singer on the street corners of New York City in 1962, today performs as a live solo singer at weddings, anniversary and birthday parties, reunions ,corporate and all seniors events. Cannella performs the songs of vocalists who he now calls his "idols" growing up. Guys like Sinatra, Bennett, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Johnny Mathis, Elvis, Ben E. King and Sam Cooke to name a few...Johnny also utilizes the skills he honed as a group lead singer to recreate songs of the great groups of the 50's, 60's and 70's. Groups like the Duprees, Drifters, Beatles and many more. In fact his One Man Group routine has become one of the most requested acts in his repertoire. I get most of my work through referrals says Cannella. The majority of the gigs I do are Anniversary parties, Birthday parties and Reunions. And usually the children of the persons hire me to sing at mom and/or dad's special event. Very often it's a surprise party and I really love doing those.I get a kick out of seeing the expression on mom and dad's face when they enter the hall thinking they're going out for a quiet dinner and are greeted by 100 or more people and me singing their anniversary wedding song. It's great to make people happy and that's one of the reasons I love what I do. Cannella also supplements his singing with a full party DJ services so that people can dance "till they drop"." I'm especially proud of my dance song library" says Johnny. "I try to keep up with the most requested party dance songs and can usually inspire the crowd into a dancing frenzy". In addition to singing at parties Johnny also does complimentary appearances for benefit fundraisers. He performed most recently in a Central Park NY concert for the benefit of St Jude Children's Hospital entitled "Make Music For A Cure". Johnny is married and the father of two and grandfather of two. His act has been rated 5 Stars on both Gigsalad and Gigmasters.
