Chevy of Homewood Announces New Siri iPhone Compatibility With the Chevy MyLink System

Dec. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- Starting in early 2013, select Chevrolet vehicles at Chevy of Homewood (http://www.homewoodchevy.com/inventory?t=n) will be able to integrate the Siri function of the iPhone. The feature will be available for the Spark 1LT and 2LT, and on the Sonic LTZ and RS. Drivers will be able to access the features of their phone through the Chevrolet MyLink system, handsfree and Eyes Free.

Using a compatible iPhone with the i0S 6 operating system, drivers can connect their iPhone to the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment center using a Bluetooth wireless connection. The driver then is able to access the voice controls of the Siri program through steering-wheel mounted controls for MyLink. After Siri is engaged, the driver simply has to speak commands to the device.

Besides offering handsfree controls, Siri’s compatibility with Chevy MyLink also offers an Eyes Free mode. When enabled, the iPhone will not light up so that drivers won’t be distracted by their phones.

With Eyes Free Mode, drivers can also use Siri for a variety of tasks such as making phone calls to contacts saved on the driver’s iPhone. They can also dictate text messages and have any incoming texts read to them while driving. Other functions include the ability to add appointments to the Calendar function of the iPhone.

The new feature demonstrates Chevrolet’s commitment to drivers of all income groups. Siri is being introduced first to Chevy’s smaller, more affordable vehicles rather than their more upscale cars. Chevy is focused on providing a vehicle lineup that is desirable to consumers, especially beyond the price tag.

The Spark and the Sonic also feature six free months of OnStar’s Directions and Connections. This service allows drivers access to emergency communication options such as automatic crash response, vehicle diagnostics, and roadside assistance. These functions can be controlled by drivers through their phones as well with the RemoteLink Mobile App.
