Gil Friesen – Co-Founder and Investor of Source 44, Passes at 75

In Memoriam of Gil Friesen – by Jess Kraus (President and CEO of Source 44)

PRLog - Dec. 21, 2012 - SOLANA BEACH, Calif. -- For nearly four years now, I have been fortunate enough to have known and developed a fellowship with Gil Friesen. Gil was an integral part of founding our company, Source 44. He was an initial investor and an ardent evangelist for Source 44 and our mission to promote sustainable and humanitarian business practices.

As a Senior member of our Board of Directors, Gil’s passion was apparent; he never missed a Board Meeting or call. He was one of our strongest supporters and a key influence on Source 44’s solutions and services.

Gil’s success began decades before Source 44 matured. Gil was one of the original founders of A&M records and built the careers of such artists as the Police, Sting and Janet Jackson. Gil also produced movies one of which is my absolute favorite "The Breakfast Club". He was an industry pioneer to say the least. He was also a mentor and friend to me ( and to countless others) .

Rolling Stone wrote a revealing article on Gil regarding him as an “Influential Music Mogul.” Throughout the article, close friends and associates unveiled Gil’s essence:

“He helped create the culture that was A&M” said Jerry Moss, one of the co-founders of A&M Records. Herb Alpert, another A&M co-founder said  “He was an all-purpose guy, when we started doing concerts, he came out with us several times – he was manning the lights.” And Warren Zanes, formerly of Del Fuegos, who recently worked with Gil on a new film premiering at Sundance in 2013, shared that “Beyond his human warmth, he was a mind guy, in love with ideas…this same guy could wear a suit better than Cary Grant and sell records”

“I'd known Gil for twenty years. He approached me, as he was very intrigued with what I was doing as a climber and wanted to help me attain my goal of climbing Everest Solo. Without his support, and the opportunities that he provided this expedition would not have happened. Since then he had become a great friend and advisor supporting me throughout my climbing and business career. I will miss his presence dearly.” said Ed Viesturs the first American mountaineer to claim all fourteen 8,000 meter peaks without supplemental oxygen and Chief Spokes Person for Source 44.

It has truly been an honor and a pleasure to have known this distinguished man. He will be deeply missed by so many.  I look forward to our continued relationship with the Friesen family and welcome Janet, a Source 44 investor and Gil’s wife, in representing him at Source 44.
