Coral Springs Festival of the Arts 2013 Cake Challenge

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec. 27, 2012 - Coral Springs, FL: Monday, December 27th, 2012:  Coral Springs Festival of the Arts is pleased to announce its annual Great Cake Challenge as part of the Coral Springs 50 year’s community birthday celebration.  This year’s theme is “Happy 50th Birthday Coral Springs!”  All cakes should demonstrate this special celebration, which is taking place at the 9th Annual Coral Springs Festival of the Arts, on Saturday, March 16, 2013.

Commenting on this year’s Cake Challenge, Co-Chair, Kimball Stadler, said, “We anticipate a much larger competition than previous years as local residents want to participate in the birthday celebrations and we have also contacted many local organizations. We are excited to have for the first year some students from Atlantic Tech Center (ATC), the local culinary program”.

If you love to bake and have a flair for decorating cakes, Coral Springs Festival of the Arts would like to hear from you! There’s a grand prize of $100 to be won!  You do not have to be a professional; all levels of experience will be accepted as long as the cake is from a licensed bakery or the applicant is covered under the 2012 cottage law which allows individuals to manufacture, sell and store certain types of “cottage food” products in an unlicensed home kitchen. A copy of the license is required if licensed or a declaration of coverage by the cottage law.  To enter, there is an application form located on the Festival of the Arts website - www.csfoa.org/festival-of-arts-cake-challenge-contest.html.

There is a nominal entry charge of $20 for residents and non-residents, and students are free if they show their ID. All application forms must be received by March 1st, 2013 and mailed with a check to Coral Springs Festival of the Arts, Inc., 2900 University Drive, Coral Springs, FL33065, for the attention of Kimball Stadler.

The cake must fit within a designated space of 1ft x ft. and no taller than 3ft.  The cake will be judged on artistic creativity, decorating technique and presentation of theme. Entries must be checked in by 9:00am on March 16th, 2013. All serving trays/platters will not be returned. Judging will be finalized at 3:30pm and announced on center stage in an official “cake walk”. As part of the rules, all contestants have to agree to and allow for pictures of the cake design as well as a designer photo opportunity for press and promotion purposes.  All decorations are to be hand crafted by the cake designer and no commercial decorations will be allowed.
