This is an interesting time in Turks and Caicos Islands,(TCI). Throughout 2012, TCI as a country has been in considerable turmoil. Direct rule by the UK since 2009 has not been easy for anyone, and the while major progress was achieved on many levels, people here need to be better involved in their own country’s future. On November 9th  the elections proceeded without incident, moving TCI forward in a new direction under a democratically elected house of assembly. While the governor remains with considerable power, the new politicians are working hard to bring effective civil service to the country, and to address the critical issues of healthcare, taxation and development. With an almost even split among voters –popular vote majority to PDM, but constituency seats majority to PNP– it is a time for all to pull in the same direction. A sense of stability and determination pervades, along with positive economic news.

The real estate market in Turks & Caicos Islands is indeed in better health this year! Overall sales in 2012 to date are at least 50% above 2011 levels, with condominiums leading the sale surge. Both homes and vacant land are being sought by buyers now confident that investment in TCI is good value, with long term security. Beaches Resorts takes over the lovely Veranda Resort this month, confirming this tourism giants’ belief in the excellent future for tourism in TCI. Construction is picking up again, several new tourism developments are under discussion, and a broader focus on diversifying the TCI economy is evident.
