It’s a-CHOC-alypse at York’s Chocolate Story Today!

Dec. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- According to the Mayan calendar, the world is due to end on Friday 21st December 2012. Chocolate has long been linked with Mayan origins, playing a special role in both Mayan and Aztec royal and religious events. Cacao seeds were offered to the gods along with chocolate drinks during sacred ceremonies.

York’s Chocolate Story is welcoming visitors to learn about the Mayan link to chocolate during its ‘A-choc-alypse’ tour of the attraction this Friday, where they will recreate the sacred ritual, using its giant Mayan calendar display as a safe spot for visitors and offering specially-made Mayan hot chocolate to the Mayan gods.

Beckie Senior, marketing manager, said: “We’ve seen a surge in sales in our chocolate shop this week, perhaps because people are buying chocolate in preparation for the world ending. But we also realise this could just be down to Christmas shopping!

“Chocolate has been linked to the Mayans for thousands of years, and our team of talented storytellers will bring to life the ancient rituals on the date when the Mayan’s predict the world will officially end. And if it is indeed ending, what better way to spend your last day than eating chocolate!”

December 21st marks the conclusion of the 5,125-year "Long Count" Mayan calendar which predicts there will be a catastrophic celestial collision between Earth and the mythical planet Nibiru, also known as Planet X, a disastrous crash with a comet, or the annihilation of civilisation by a giant solar storm.
