The idea is simple: the platform asks users to “like” London Drug’s Facebook page to add an additional $1 donation to the Salvation Army for every new fan they receive. Using social media as an channel for charitable giving is becoming increasingly popular and it was a great opportunity to take advantage of this avenue. The Salvation Army is the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in Canada, supporting the country’s most vulnerable people. They are extremely deserving of the donation.
The Facebook app has been a huge success, with users eager to see donations rise. Because of the overwhelming support they have received, London Drugs has increased their initial donation of $5,000 to $15,000 this holiday season.
