PRLog - Dec. 18, 2012 - BURNS HARBOR, Ind. -- Toyota has a long history of success in creating highly fuel-efficient vehicles. Dealers such as Lake Shore Toyota have long been aware of this, and, with Toyota’s 2012 North American Environmental Report, the hard numbers are available to back it up.
2013 Toyota Prius
This report highlights Toyota operations from all over the world. It includes research, development, manufacturing, logistics, sales, and more. According to this report, Toyota is the most fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly automaker. The report also states that Toyota remains the industry standard for producing high-quality, fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles.
Some of the accomplishments listed in the report included:
-Ten plants that achieved zero landfill waste.
-A 7% reduction in greenhouse gas produced by each vehicle since 2008.
-Meeting and exceeding standards set by the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards.
-Over 900 volunteer events to raise environmental awareness.
This dedication to the environment has long been one of the primary goals of Toyota, and their report indicates that as much.
According to senior vice president of Toyota Motor North America, Dian Ogilvie, Toyota is “committed to continuous improvement”
This report also indicated how heavily Toyota has lead in the United States hybrid market. Their vehicles are responsible for 52% of all hybrid vehicle sales in the United States in 2012. Over 1.2 million Prius Family hybrid vehicles have been sold in the US, as well as 2.9 million worldwide. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid is estimated to be able to travel as far as 540 miles using a combination of electricity and a single tank of gas.
Toyota has also been using bio-based plastic in their vehicles, as well as new eco-friendly fabrics and carpets that are designed to be more eco-friendly. These materials help lessen their dependence on oil for plastics in addition to making them more bio-degradable, creating less bio-waste that can never disappear.
Toyota has also received its eighth consecutive Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award, which is given out to companies that go above and beyond when it comes to a commitment to the environment. Toyota won the award for decreasing absolute energy use in their company and plants by up to 9%, and for receiving no violations or complaints from inspectors.
Toyota has also long been a supporter of community outreach programs that are designed to help get input from residents of the community and to help educate them on better ways to be fuel efficient and environmentally friendly. Drivers who wish to learn more about the company’s efforts, of who wish to shop for a new or used car, should visit Lake Shore Toyota’s Burns Harbor, IN dealership.
