Follow on Google News | Infinity and Beyond Competes to Raise Funds for Cancer ResearchInfinity and Beyond, a United Charitable Programs (UCP) fiscally sponsored charitable project, formed a marathon team to raise $2,700 in last Saturday’s Spartan Beast Race. The team’s racers placed sixth out of 143 teams.
Davenport’s program combines both his love for the outdoors and his passion to aid those affected by cancer. By focusing on performing physical activities, his program raises funds, while simultaneously engaging the public. On December 8, 2012, a group of seven athletes, who have all been affected by cancer in some way, competed in the Spartan Beast Race (http://www.spartanrace.com/) “With Infinity and Beyond, my hope is to not only make a stand against the debilitating disease that is affecting my father, but I want to encourage others to do the same,” said Davenport. The moneys that were raised from Saturday’s race will go toward the program’s mission, which is to fund cancer research at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, as well as to assist indigent cancer patients with the costs of care. Not only does Davenport feel it’s his mission to help those affected by cancer, but he hopes it will also encourage others to do the same. “My personal mission [in life] is to constantly be working toward not only improving myself, but improving the world and people around me,” said Davenport. He believes taking care of the world is a combined effort. “My mission isn’t just to make Infinity and Beyond a network that works toward encouraging individuals to help fight cancer; it is also to encourage them to take part in changing the world for the better.” Davenport has already started forming a team for next year’s Spartan Beast Race. He is also trying to learn the ins and outs of event planning, so that he can coordinate fundraising events hosted by Infinity and Beyond in the near future. Infinity and Beyond is sponsored by UCP, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit fiscal sponsor of active charitable programs. Through UCP, Davenport is able to focus solely on his program’s charitable mission, rather than on the administrative burdens that an independent nonprofit can have. All donations to Infinity and Beyond are tax-deductible.
