Bosak Honda of Highland Announces Honda Milestone

Dec. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Bosak Honda of Highland, Indiana is excited to announce that on Tuesday, December 11th, 2012, Honda will export its one-millionth Honda from the United States. A ship containing 2013 Honda Accord models (http://bosakhondahighland.com/inventory/view/2013/Make/Honda/New/SortBy0/) will be leaving Port Hueneme in California headed for Seoul, South Korea. The first ever Honda vehicle made in the United States and exported overseas was also a Honda Accord, manufactured 25 years ago.

The Honda Motor Company was founded by Soichiro Honda who began his career as an automotive mechanic selling piston rings to Toyota before World War II. His company, Tokai Seiki, was taken over by the government during the war and by the end of it, his factories had been decimated by aircraft attacks and the Mikawa earthquake in 1945.

After the war Honda put together a team of 12 men and began building motorcycles or what were then regular bicycles with surplus war radio generator engines attached to them. They quickly became the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles, a title they still hold today.

In 1963, the Honda Motor Company moved into the automobile market with the T360, which was a small pickup truck. They followed it with the release of the S500 sports car a few months later, and then produced the first Japanese luxury car line with the release of the Acura in 1986. Today they are the second largest Japanese automaker, the fourth largest manufacturer in the United States, and seventh largest in the world. They are involved in everything from airplanes to developing robots with artificial intelligence.
