The ceremony will provide an ideal time to let go things that no longer work in your life. We will encourage you to write on (special) paper, things, ideas and situations that you no longer wish to have power in your life-things you wish to release in the coming year. Then, you will be invited to symbolically cast your list to the eternal flame in the "burning bowl" and begin anew.
The second part of the service allows us to ask God for whatever we wish to bring into our lives, to create a clean, fresh start of our hopes and desires in the New Year. The event is one of our most meaningful "spiritual tune-ups" each year and you do not want to miss it.
In the old mystery schools, students were encouraged to burn away all selfish personality defects and disappointments from the past by writing down those feelings of frustration and lack of fulfillment then casting them into a large fire. This practice is still carried on today at many Unity churches.
In the Burning Bowl Ceremony at Unity of Delray Beach, at 7 p.m. Jan. 2, we write all the things we want to be
free of on special paper, and it burns away very quickly in the bowl. We then write our goals and commitments for 2013. It’s good to arrive early. This is one of the most popular evenings of the New Year! Love offering.
