Virgin Active in The Printworks is collecting food for those in need this Christmas

Virgin Active in The Printworks has kicked off a canned food collection this week in association with local charity Barnabus and all those donating will receive a free thank you gift from Virgin Active too.

PRLog - Dec. 17, 2012 - Barnabus is a Christian Homeless Charity based in Manchester that started over 21 years ago with just one man walking the streets, giving out food and drink to the homeless.

They now offer a lifeline to 600 visiting homeless and vulnerable people each week, many of whom have severe addictions or mental health issues. They support their physical, emotional and spiritual needs and do all they can to help them get back into mainstream society. They have received the 'unsung heroes' Queens award for Voluntary Service, but do not receive any government funding, so rely entirely on donations.

Virgin Active are playing their part with a tinned food collection and everyone is encouraged to get involved whether a gym member or not.  People are being asked to call into the reception area with tinned food only (beans, soup and vegetables are great!) and in return for donating a tin of food you will be given a gift envelope from Virgin Active.  Gifts include free membership, day passes, healthy eating plans and free personal training sessions.

The collection will be done until Christmas eve when all donations will be given to Barnabus to help feed the homeless over the festive period.

Fred Booth, Centre Director of The Printworks, explains;

“Lots of people aren’t as fortunate as the rest of us at Christmas and with this being forecast as one of the coldest winters ever too, we’re proud to support Virgin Active in this initiative as Barnabus is such a worthwhile charity.”
