Desire To Effect Change Fuels Love Fest DC

Hippie Life Krew hosts Love Fest DC, a charity benefit concert to raise $1000 for Will Rap 4 Food, Inc.'s You Give Goods virtual food drive for Martha's Table

Dec. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Love Fest DC proved to be a holiday treat for hip hop heads across the Washington, D.C. Metro area December 13. Local artists came together before an excited crowd at Muse Lounge Thursday night with a single goal in mind, giving back to their own.

Paying it forward was a prominent theme of the night, but love, artistic freedom and peacefulness also played a role in setting the tone. It’s what those who are associated with Hippie Life Krew, including artists Visto, Eazy, Kelow, Pitch Black Crew and K.E. swear by, and they certainly aren’t alone.

“We’re having this event to bring awareness and consciousness while alleviating egos and status. We want to raise money for Will Rap 4 Food,” said Visto.

Will Rap 4 Food, Inc. (WR4F) is a local non-profit founded by area rapper Pro’Verb that brings together artists who are willing to use their gifts and platforms to bring awareness to the epidemic of child hunger.

In stride with the goal of bringing awareness and giving back, Love Fest DC proceeds will benefit WR4F's You Give Goods (YGG) virtual food drive for Martha’s Table. YGG is an e-commerce platform that virtualizes food drives, making it easier to set up, donate, and deliver food raised. At the end of the drive, YGG delivers purchased food directly to the designated beneficiary.

Hippie Life Krew successfully raised $1000 for the food drive at Love Fest DC, which will post prior to the end of the drive, December 23.

It’s the first time the event has been held, and attendees were able to purchase Hippie Life Krew merchandise, watch live performances and also become inspired to make a difference.

“We want people to leave the event thinking they need to do more in their communities,” said Visto.

Performances by some of the area's premier hip hop artists and up and comers to include Pro'Verb, RAtheMC, Lyriciss, Whitefolkz, Harmony Muzik, Kelow, Soncier, and more energized the crowd and demonstrated a united front to fight hunger and raise awareness.

“I just want to see it grow, especially for this area of music or hip hop. Events like this motivate others to get involved,” said artist RAtheMC.

“Hippie Life Krew, that’s my folks. Hippie life for me means a wild life. It’s living free, being easy and doing whatever I want in a good way,” said rapper Che Merk.

The host of Love Fest DC, Mr. 2Oh2 had the help of DJ Amen Ra and DJ STOUNDYN to keep the night running smoothly, and each artist seemed to appreciate the vibes created.

“I’m feeling overwhelmed. It’s an honor being here and being a part of the movement,” said rapper Jimm.

Fellow rapper Soncier used Thursday night’s event to introduce new music as well as make a financial impact. “It’s a gracious opportunity,” he said. “I bought a few tickets myself to help with the cause.”

Love Fest DC was organized by Hippie Life Krew and sponsored by University of Taste, DMV Socialite, WR4F, DMVixen, DC Rap and several others.
