The impact of 12th December, 2012 on art
15th December, 2012: The recent hullabaloo over the rare occurrence of the number twelve appearing thrice in the date defining the 12th of December of year 2012 was quite fascinating. It sparked interesting reactions amongst people. While some rushed to get married or engaged, others went in for cesarean surgeries to have their babies delivered on this auspicious day. This frenzied reaction was in fact a world-wide phenomenon, with reports of people’s bizarre antics pouring in from everywhere.
A group of well known painters got together to hold the 12.12.12 Contemporary Art Exhibition in at the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. It was naturally inaugurated on the 12th December and goes on in till the 17th of December. Said Ashwani Kumar Prithviwasi, world famous painter, founder of Delhi Collage of Art, and one of the participants in the exhibition, “As artists we draw inspiration from whatever happens around us. The frenzied response to one day in the month of December, by the world at large, inspired us artists to get together and showcase our work. In a sense we are celebrating the spirit of our being human, with all its idiosyncrasies and foibles.”
