Dec. 14, 2012 - PRLog -- Konditor Meister, a nationally recognized bakery located in Braintree, Massachusetts is now the home of the first commercial rooftop solar system in Braintree. Located at 32 Wood Road, the 68 Kilowatt system was designed and installed by Invaleon Solar Technologies, a North Andover, Massachusetts integrator and installer of photovoltaic solar technology.

Comprised of 235 solar panels, the solar installation will allow Konditor Meister to produce over 82,000 Kilowatt-hour annually, saving an estimated $13,000 a year on utility bills. This will generate power sufficient to offset 50% of the bakeries’ current electricity usage.

According to Invaleon CEO Tom Wu, the 68 Kw system is the first phase of the installation.

“We plan to add an additional 30 Kw in the form of carports,” Wu said, “Once the second phase is completed, the solar array will be 98 Kw with 340 solar panels and will produce over 115,000 KwH annually.”

The solar panels installed atop carports will provide shade for Konditor Meister customer’s cars and will eliminate more than 110,000 pounds of annual carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, which is the equivalent of taking approximately 21 cars permanently off Braintree’s roads. (20,000 Gallons of Gasoline or 9316 Electric Car Charges) Customers that park their car underneath the solar carport will be able to keep their cars cool during the summer so that their butter-cream and rolled chocolate cakes will not melt.

“We tell customers to leave their car A/C on during hot days so that their cakes do not melt once they get inside their cars,” Moesinger explained, “By not having to run their A/C while they’re parked, customers will be able to offset over 1,500 gallons of gasoline each year.”

Wu continued, “The financial benefit of this installation includes tax credit for 30% of the system’s costs.”

“In addition to electricity, the system will produce Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) that are sold at tremendous high value to energy suppliers separately from electricity and represents the environmental benefits of solar energy,” Wu explained.

“Buying SRECs helps energy supply companies meet their annual requirements which mandate part of their energy sales mix come from renewable sources,” Wu added.

Konditor Meister owner Guenther Moesinger said, “I am proud to have the first commercial solar installation in Braintree because I’ve always believed in helping the environment.”

“Konditor Meister has been at the Wood Road location for over sixteen years and has experienced an increase in its electricity demands due to the refrigeration and mixers,” Moesinger added.

“With the support of federal, state and local government, the investment in solar energy is very cost effective,” Moesinger said.

Moesinger continued, “The expertise of Invaleon made it easy to do the right thing for the environment with renewable energy.”

The City of Braintree is committed to renewable energy. Bill Bottiggi, General Manager, Braintree Electric Light Department said, “The Braintree Electric light Department is excited to see Konditor Meister making such a significant investment in renewable energy.  On a daily basis over 50% on New England’s electricity is generated with fossil fuel, solar projects like this reduce that dependence and contribute to a better environment for everyone.  Here at Braintree Electric we have been increasing our renewable and zero greenhouse gas emitting portfolios substantially over the last few years.   Currently we participate in Hydro, Wind, Solar, Landfill Gas, and Nuclear projects.  Combined the projects total to over 23% of our power supply needs.”

“We are proud to be the home of such a cutting edge bakery” said Mayor Joseph C. Sullivan, “and now their environmental commitment may begin to match the flavor of their cakes.  It is a cause for celebration!”

“Given Guenther Moesinger’s environmental commitment we were excited to install this clean, affordable solar system for Konditor Meister,” Wu said, “This is the right time for commercial businesses to look at the financial investment of solar energy.”
