During night sleep, quantities of sugar and of amidine are being burned and prepared for being transformed into energy for the brain and for the body. Long term effects of sleep deprivation may also include: high blood pressure, obesity, heart attack, depression, psychological effects of deprivation, mood disorders. One of the most worrying effects severe sleep deprivation has, is death. Frequently this is related with the fact that the immune system without sleep becomes weaker and weaker. It decreases the number of white cells, the same as the activity of the blood cells remaining. Also as causes of sleep deprivation, the amount of growing hormone produced is being decreased by the body.

Nevertheless, the longest period a human being remained awake was for eleven days; while most of people may like to think they can live without too much sleep, this is definitely a false belief and the effects of sleep deprivation can be disastrous.
