ebm-papst acquires gearbox specialist Zeitlauf

Dec. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Mulfingen, Lauf, Nuremberg, 28 November 2012: The ebm-papst Group, world market leader for motors and fans, will acquire the gearbox manufacturer Zeitlauf with effect of 1 January 2013. The technology group based in Mulfingen (Baden-Württemberg, Germany) is thus strengthening its "Industrial Drive Engineering" division.

"The acquisition will enable us to offer optimised drive solutions comprising motor, gearbox and software-supported control technology in the future," explains Rainer Hundsdörfer, Chairman of the Board of Management of the ebm-papst Group. "The company is strategically important for us because it complements our system competence in the field of drive engineering, strengthening our company's location at St. Georgen," Hundsdörfer continues.

Dirk Schallock, Managing Director of ebm-papst St. Georgen, the home of the Industrial Drive Engineering division, is certain that this expansion and the new ability to offer complete systems is a distinct and correct step towards the future. "Our many years of positive business relationships gives us good cause for cheer about this acquisition."

The company Zeitlauf is based in the Franconian town of Lauf (near Nuremberg) and is seen as a specialist for industrial gearboxes. Its product range includes planetary, spur gear and angular gearboxes. With 280 employees, 25 of whom are trainees, Zeitlauf generates an annual turnover of around 33 million euro.

Thomas Horz, Managing Director of Zeitlauf: "The link with ebm-papst will enable us to build on and expand our technological leadership. The access that we will gain to the global market will make additional growth possible for Zeitlauf."

The transaction follows years of successful cooperation between the two companies. Both parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
