Follow on Google News | Winners of the Boston Documentary and Short Film Competition announcedWinners of the Boston Turkish Documentary and Short Film Competition, which is the first of its kind organized in North America, are announced.
The Competition Jury once again was comprised of distinguished names in cinema; Haden Guest, Director of Harvard Film Archive, Peter Keough, film editor of The Phoenix, and Carter Long, Curator of the Museum of Fine Arts Film Program. In addition to the jury awards, the audience also voted at the film screenings to select their “Best Documentary” Celebrating its seventh year, this year’s competition had 36 finalist films. Best Short Film Award of the jury is a tie between Serhat Karaaslan’s “Musa” and L. Rezan Yeşilbaş’s “Silent” (Bé Deng). The recipient of the Best Documentary Award is Aysun Bademsoy’s “Honor” (Ehre). Audience Award in the documentary category went to Director Hüseyin Karabey’s film “Life as a Fable: A Narrative” (Bir Hayatı Masal Gibi Anlatmak). “Bread” (Ekmek) directed by Koray Sevindi received the Audience Award in the short film category. This year’s competition has also recognized a number of films by Special Mentions. Short films recognized by Special Mentions are “Home” (Yuva) by Ebubekir Çetinkaya, “Nolya” by M. Cem Öztüfekçi and“Vanished into Blue” (Buhar) by Abdurrahman Öner. In the documentary category “I Flew You Stayed” (Ben Uçtum Sen Kaldın) by Mizgin Müjde Arslan, “The Last Sponge Diver” (Son Süngerci) by Savaş Karakaş and Sibel Goloğlu Mesci, “Playing House” (Evcilik) by Bingöl Elmas, “Random to Hug the Wind” (Rastgele Orsa) by Hüseyin Bulut, and “Waiting” (Beklemek) by Bülent Öztürk received Special Mentions.
