Mazda is aiming to take the lead in the competitive mid-sized sedan class with these new offerings. Not only is the eye catching styling with sweeping curves and forward positioned cabin a selling point, but the Mazda6 is projected to potentially be one of the most efficient vehicles in its class.
The standard engine will be the innovative SKYACTIV-G 2.5L four-cylinder that’s capable of an impressive 185 lb-ft of torque and 184 hp with a high 13:1 compression ratio for efficient combustion. The SKYACTIV-D diesel engine will have the lowest compression ratio of any vehicle burning the thicker fuel, enabling Mazda to make a much lighter aluminum block engine. The diesel engine is also improved with a two-stage turbocharger and is projected to put up very impressive torque numbers.
The Mazda6 will also get a new Smart City Brake Support system that can help drivers stop by activating the brakes if a collision appears to be imminent. Also part of the SKYACTIV system is the I-ELOOP regenerative braking system. This system will save fuel by powering the electrical systems of the car with energy recovered from the braking process.
