Biblical Archaeology Society Presents the Thrills and Excitement of Digging in Israel in 2013

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec. 12, 2012 - The Biblical Archaeology Society announces the publication of the annual Biblical Archaeology Review (BAR) Dig issue (January/February 2013), which features a listing of nearly two dozen excavation projects in Israel and Jordan that are seeking volunteers for the upcoming 2013 season. In addition, the issue features BAR web editor Noah Wiener’s article “The Diggers Return,” which highlights both the broad-ranging experiences enjoyed by first-time dig volunteers, together with the thrills of discovery, travel and camaraderie that keep many diggers coming back year after year.

Those interested in joining a dig are encouraged to visit BAS online at http://digs.bib-arch.org. There we provide additional information on excavations listed in the current issue of BAR, as well as dozens of other projects that are available exclusively on the web. For most excavation opportunities, applicants of all ages and levels of experience are welcome to apply, and some programs offer university credits for participation. We also provide information about season dates, project directors, excavation fees and who to contact about volunteering.

While viewing the 2013 dig opportunities, visitors to the BAS web site can download the free eBook I Volunteered For This? Life on an Archaeological Dig, an informative, amusing and sometimes touching collection of articles about dig life by ordinary excavation volunteers. The Biblical Archaeology Society is also proud to announce its 2013 BAS Dig Scholarships competition, which offers funding for selected applicants who wish to participate in an archaeological excavation.
