This latest techie treat scores Chevrolet, and Team Chevrolet as well, the honor of debuting the first of this technology for a U.S. automaker in the United States.

Lovingly dubbed “Siri Eyes Free”, the virtual assistant is a voice-activated feature that can be found on Apple iPhones as well as the Apple iPad. Created to answer questions, search the Internet, receive email, and even text a dictated message, Siri allows the driver to maintain eye contact with the road and its environment as well as deterring common distractions such as texting while driving.

Compatible with the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5, Siri comes to life through the cars’ existing Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system that comes standard on the 2013 Chevy Spark LT and the 2013 Chevy Sonic LTZ and RS. A quick tap on the steering-wheel-mounted voice activation button gets the driver started with hands-free calling, iTunes music library access, message composition, and more.

As the use of smartphones continues to skyrocket, so do the efforts of Chevrolet to continue to offer safe alternatives to in-car distractions. The welcomed addition of Siri is designed to offer the driver voice-activated control over once distractive actions such as navigation and communication, or simply avoid taking the eyes off the road to change a radio station. With statistics showing that almost 31,000 people were killed in “distraction-affected” crashes in 2011, the need for the integrated Siri is evident.

Team Chevrolet is indeed proud to represent the iconic Chevrolet, and looks forward to offering its latest addition of “Siri” to their Valparaiso area drivers. For more information about the integrated Apple assistant, or about the 2013 Spark or 2013 Sonic that will debut this stellar new feature, drivers are invited to contact Team Chevrolet.
