But organisations in all sectors, and of any size, can benefit from using ‘operational research’ techniques in their business.
Operational Research (O.R.) is the discipline of applying appropriate analytical methods to help organisations make better decisions.
The OR Society – the membership body for the Operational Research profession – has launched a new video (http://www.youtube.com/
The OR Society says the video will help time-starved business executives to understand the potential of O.R. to develop and improve the way they approach business problems.
The video draws on testimony from industry giants including British Airways, Crown Paints, Tata Steel and ASDA, on how they’ve used O.R. to improve their businesses.
If a business is dealing with complex decisions, is struggling to identify problems, needs to manage risk or improve processes, these are just some of the areas where an O.R. professional can add value to an organisation.
The video has been uploaded to Youtube, and is being distributed to the OR Society’s member network.
OR Society Marketing Consultant Graham Sharp said: “Operational Research and analytics techniques have been helping to make many organisations successful for decades. However, marketplaces and business circumstances change very rapidly nowadays and O.R. can play a critical role in making sure that businesses are as efficient and profitable as possible. Managers are frequently tasked with doing more for less and just about any organisation can benefit substantially from the work that our members carry out.
“Our video is aimed at those businesses that perhaps feel they could be doing things better – O.R. can help them to better understand business problems and even make better use of the data they already have at their fingertips.”
