SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – After last invading Kensington in December 2009, the Beatles return to Kensington Gallery on December 28 & 29, 2012 – this time sharing the bill with an impressive contingent of non-traditional furniture artists, all of whom are SDSU alumni and grad students.

The Beatles portion of the show will combine art and artifacts, including an actual brick from the Beatles early-60’s Liverpool home, the Cavern Club; a speck of John Lennon’s hair (with certificate of authenticity);  rare Beatles photographs;  an authentic Comiskey Park stadium chair that “witnessed” their August 20, 1965 concert;  a leaf from Paul’s boyhood home, and other seldom-seen, often quirky memorabilia.

The first 50 people who attend the opening will receive a Beatle candle, designed specifically for this show.

Juxtaposed against the eccentric pop backdrop will be a highbrow display by the SDSU furniture artist cartel, including Erin Behling, Vincente Robles, Marcus Papay, Jennifer Anderson and Justin Kramer.  No Eames knockoffs here – each artist communicates via the media of furniture, and each of the five artists approaches the art of furniture-making from a unique point of view.  Using such disparate materials as concrete, plaster, carbon fiber, reclaimed wood and even mud, the results will change the way the average person views contemporary furniture.

100% of the net profit from art and gift shop items will go to support autism research.

Autism now affects nearly 1 in 88 children born today; and unfortunately, the epidemic shows no sign of retreating.  The net profit from the evening will be donated to the Autism Research Institute, who not only fund research but also disseminate information about effective treatments for autism  via their www.autism.com website, conferences and newsletters.
