Follow on Google News | Let's Make a Movie: a Comedy About Filmmaking Is Scheduled For Release December 14th, 2012Independent filmmaker Elana Mugdan’s award-winning feature-length picture, formerly named Director’s Cut, will be released on December 14th, 2012 with a DVD release date set for December 21st.
By: DME Press Let's Make a Movie is the story of Cassie Thompson (Played by Hallie York), a college dropout and ex-film student who is tired of being disrespected and downtrodden, has decided that she's had enough. In a subconscious effort to turn her life around, she decides to make a movie with a rag-tag group of friends. The only problem is the movie is impossible for her to film without a $100 million budget, and her cast and crew are neurotic and inexperienced, to say the least. Will Cassie prevail and finish her movie, or will this become another mark on her long list of failures? The film will be available online starting December 14th on www.Lets-Make- Production: Elana Mugdan wrote, directed and edited the film, which is more than a little bit autobiographical: Let’s Make a Movie was shot primarily in Queens, NYC, where Mugdan has lived her entire life, with additional scenes shot in Manhattan and Nassau County. The film’s New York City roots run deep. Dave Dodds, another Queens native, was behind the camera as director of photography. Special effects were provided by Lenz Productions, owned by Eugene Chu, also of Queens. And most of the actors, including Hallie York in the lead role, are from Manhattan and Brooklyn. Festivals, Awards, and Critical Acclaim: Since its premiere the picture has been an official selection at fourteen film festivals in the U.S. and abroad, earning widespread acclaim and winning major awards at four of them. The film won the Director’s Choice Award for a feature at the 2011 Litchfield Hills Film Festival in Connecticut. Jack Corragio of the Litchfield County Times wrote: “…[S]uddenly it seemed that passion, will and unadulterated talent is the cream that makes projects float. The ... [film is] a pleasantly lighthearted comedy… about a girl with aspirations far beyond her Long Island town. Alas, protagonist Cassie is past college and still at home; frustrated by her lack of prospects she decides to make a movie about the trials of a zombie cannibal vampire pirate queen, that feel-good Middle America stuff. [The movie] proved a relatable story bolstered higher with genuine heart and humor. [With] professional- In April, 2011, the movie won the Indie Spirit Special Recognition Award at the prestigious Boston International Film Festival. In July of that year, it was featured at the New Hope Film Festival in Pennsylvania, where it won another Indie Spirit Award and garnered this review: “[We] were pleasantly surprised by the climax of the feature, which did not end with clichés (as the more cynical members of our group had expected). A lively cast ensures an entertaining 90 minutes.
