Follow on Google News | National Event Raises Arthritis Awareness at Local ParkThe Arthritis Walk® is the Arthritis Foundation’s annual nationwide signature event that raises funds and awareness to fight arthritis, the nation’s most common cause of disability.
By: B Creative Marketing & Design The Arthritis Walk® kicks off in May during National Arthritis Month in communities nationwide to fund arthritis research, health education and government advocacy initiatives. Locally, the Arthritis Foundation’s West Palm Beach Chapter, and dedicated volunteers and Walk Committee, recently organized the 2012 Arthritis Walk and Arff-ritis Walk (Because Dogs get Arthritis Too). The Lake Worth Walk was held on November 10th with festivities starting at 8 AM at the John Prince Park. Participants walk in honor of a friend or family member with arthritis. People with arthritis wear blue hats to signify their action in taking control of their condition. The event features a three-mile and one-mile course, with arthritis information and activities for the entire family. “This year’s Walk raised over $72,000 and we had over 600 people attend!! This was our best turn-out yet, and additionally, almost 40 teams were formed in support of the day,” said MaryJo McPhail, Walk Committee Chair. This event would not be possible without generous support of its sponsors: Center for Bone & Joint Surgery, Comprehensive Pain Care, Wellington Regional Medical Center, Synvisc One, Florida Crystals, Genentech, Coastal Pain Solutions, Orthopedic Center of Palm Beach County and Janssen, as well as other compassionate and devoted event donors and service providers.
