Follow on Google News | Tuscany's Most Famous Living NativityBy: Alfaweb The village is home to a small but impressive Archaeological Museum, a 12th-century Cathedral and several sculptures and mosaics crafted by local artists; gracefully seated at the top of a hill, it is a great point for admiring the Sienese countryside, especially the astonishing towers of San Gimignano. Anyway, let's go back to the main subject now: the Nativity Scene. Everything takes place in the village centre, along the alleys and the squares, where cellars and other typical public places are decorated with poor materials; visitors basically have the opportunity to see a Roman village just as it would have appeared 2.000 years ago, inhabited by more than 250 men, women and children dressed in original clothes. A market place, a caravansary, passers-by, soldiers, shepherds, blacksmiths, artists and other characters enrich the scene; nothing is left to chance: the animals are real, the goods are fresh, the furnitures are faithful reproductions. Casole's Living Nativity has been awarded national and international prizes; the number of visits peaked in 2008 and 2010 at 50.000! If you want to be part of the event, just consider that the scenes will take place on Wednesday December 26th, Saturday 29th, Sunday 30th (2012) and Sunday January 6th (2013) from 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.; the ticket costs 5,00 €, 1 Euro more if you want to visit the Museum and the Collegiata as well.
