The ceremony was attended by Dr Gerold Amelung, the German Consul General in Chengdu; Linda Jiang, General Manager of TÜV Rheinland Western China; local government representatives led by Qimin Xu, Head of Ya’an Overseas and Taiwan Affairs Office; and 650 Renjia students from Grades 1-9. After the ceremony, the VIPs visited the school facilities, including classrooms, the library, the multimedia room and the dance studio.
“With the help of this newly donated equipment, the chances of reaching the goal of providing these students – your children – with the best possible education to prepare them for a happy and successful life, are even greater”, Dr Amelung stated. “TÜV Rheinland not only provides short-term monetary support, we are also committed to the long-term development of the school. This multimedia equipment will help the students learn more easily and effectively”
After the Sichuan earthquake in 2008, TÜV Rheinland took the initiative to call for donations from among its staff in Greater China and actively participated in the rebuilding of the Renjia School, including having TÜV experts check the buildings’ safety, recruiting volunteer staff to facilitate teacher training programmes and donating new or used stationery, sports equipment and books. To date, seven sessions of teacher and IT training have been organised at the Renjia Primary School. Further IT equipment training may be arranged depending on the need.
In addition to the multimedia equipment donation to the Sichuan Renjia School, the reconstruction of two more schools, in Yunnan – Xiangjiaoshui and Mangnannuo Schools – has been completed. The opening ceremonies for these two schools will be held in mid-December.
