On the evening of December 21, 2012, there will be a function to celebrate the 100 years of Indian cinema in the august presence of Hon’ble Union Minister for Petroleum, Shri Veerappa Moily. Many eminent personalities of the Indian film fraternity will be felicitated on this occasion.
The major highlights of the festival is the participation of films directed by the master filmmakers like, Antonioni, Akira Kurosawa, Henri Clouzot and also the contemporary celebrities like Aki Kaurismaki, Michael Henneke, Abbas Kiarastomi, Lars Von Trier, Kim Ki Duk, Volker Schlondorff and other eminent filmmakers around the world. Films which have won Awards at major film festivals like Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Karlovy Vary and others form a part of the attractive package. The special attraction of the festival is the Indian competition section, with 11 Contemporary films in 8 Indian languages are participating in the event. With the kind courtesy Max Mueller Bhavan , organising a Master Class on The Bigger Picture–Structuring Reality in Feature Film Editing to be conducted by Andrew Bird, a renowned Film Editor from Germany who has worked with eminent filmmakers like Fatih Akin and others.
On the concluding day of the festival, on December 27, His Excellency the Governor of Karnataka Shri. Hansraj Bhardwaj will present the awards to the award winning films. The 5th BIFFES will be concluded by the famous movie THE CLOWN, (2011), a Brazilian film directed by Selton Mello.
In spite of the budget and time constraint that we faced , we are happy to mention that many Foreign delegates from Japan, Sri Lanka, France, Ukraine, Israel, Mexico, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nepal and other countries.
“We have received confirmation from all the Indian filmmakers of the films participating in the competition regarding their participation in the festival and we are very delighted to witness it” said the Executive Committee of 5th BIFFES.
A round table meeting on the subject- The current Trend in Asian cinema will also be held during the festival in which members from NETPAC, other major institutions will participate.
