JNEB Journal Club webinar series starts January 2013

Beginning in January, the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior launches the first JNEB Journal Club. The Journal Club will consist of weekly webinars featuring authors from the latest issue of Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior.

 
Dec. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- Beginning in January, the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) launches the first JNEB Journal Club. The Journal Club will consist of weekly webinars featuring authors from the latest issue of Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior. During the webinars the authors will review and discuss their research articles and students will have an opportunity to ask authors questions. Each one-hour webinar will be broadcast to participating graduate classrooms across the world at 1 p.m. ET.

The first series will focus on childhood obesity. The Journal Club is planning to present webinars by the following authors. Please register for each session individually at http://www.sneb.org/events/journalclub.html (http://www.sneb.org/events/journalclub.html).

Jan 28: Lorrene Davis Ritchie, Jessica Soldavini  - Nutrition Claims Impact Health Perceptions and Taste Preferences in 4th and 5th Grade Children

Feb 4: Nandita Bezbaruah, Ardith Brunt - The Influence of Cartoon Character Advertising on Fruit and Vegetable Preferences of 9- to 11-Year-Old Children (approved for CEU credit)

Feb 11: Mildred A. Horodynski, Gayle Coleman, Susan Baker - The Healthy Toddlers Curriculum (approved for CEU credit)

Feb 25: Lori Roth-Yousey, Yen Li Chu, Marla Reicks - A Qualitative Study to Explore How Parental Expectations and Rules Influence Beverage Choices in Early Adolescence

March 4: Julie C. Lumeng - Beliefs about the Role of Parenting in Feeding and Childhood Obesity among Mothers of Lower Socioeconomic Status

March 11: Jessica L. Thomson - Associations among School Characteristics and Foodservice Practices in a Nationally Representative Sample of U.S. Schools

March 18: Jane D. Lanigan - The Relationship between Practices and Child Care Providers' Beliefs Related to Child Feeding and Obesity Prevention

March 25: Mark Swanson - Perceptions of Healthful Eating and Influences on the Food Choices of Appalachian

April 1: Heidi Wengreen - Incentivizing Children’s Fruit and Vegetable Consumption: Results of a US Pilot-Study of the Food Dudes Program

April 8: Melanie Hingle - Texting for Health: The Use of Participatory Methods to Develop Healthy Lifestyle Messages for Teens●

Journal Club is a member benefit so there is no charge for SNEB members to host these sessions. Non-members wishing to participate will be charged $25 per webinar. You will have the option of broadcasting the session live or the recording will be accessible for future viewing.

A multiple choice quiz, writing assignment, and applied project will be made available to instructors upon request for each webinar. Sarah Colby PhD, RD, Assistant Professor at The University of Tennessee Department of Nutrition is championing and organizing this effort.
