Colocation provider and managed IT services firm InfoRelay Online Systems Inc. announced Friday the expansion of its network infrastructure in the Chicago data center, ORD1, to meet a surge in demand from mid-western financial services firms and tech companies seeking high-security, high-bandwidth network services, such as Metro Ethernet, server colocation, off-site backup and dedicated servers.

InfoRelay’s ORD1 Data Center is centrally located in downtown Chicago in the Telegraph Building. At more 180,000 square feet, ORD1 is prepared for the expected demand, and currently supports more than 80 networks, and 35 plus Internet carriers.

The nation's oldest futures and options trading exchange, the Chicago Board of Trade sits adjacent to the InfoRelay ORD1 Data Center. InfoRelay states that ORD1 serves financial trading companies operating at the Chicago Board of Trade that need high bandwidth, low-latency, redundant network connectivity. Additionally, InfoRelay has indicated at it will be providing direct Metro Ethernet connectivity options for businesses in Chicago and the surrounding areas, allowing offices to connect to the Internet or their colocated equipment at 100Mbps, 1,000Mbps, or 10,000Mbps.

Software development firms are also expanding their presence in the Chicago area data centers, explains InfoRelay Account Executive Jason Randall. “Mounting interest in colocation services from mid-sized and large software development companies as a result of recent natural disasters and the fear of being within the 'Hurricane Zone' has warranted the expansion of our Chicago data center footprint.”

Many companies choose to colocate their network infrastructure, so that they are protected by backup power systems such as a generator and UPS setup, and redundant network connectivity, as part of a disaster recovery plan that is intended prevent unexpected service interruptions. Director of Technical Operations at InfoRelay, Josh Abraham explains, “InfoRelay has a lot of experience in developing redundant systems. We work diligently to protect our customers from natural disasters and utility problems through this redundancy. Our aggregate network capacity is over 200 gigabits per second powered by 1 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit links.” Within InfoRelay’s ORD1 facility, businesses in and around downtown Chicago have immediate access to over 80 available networks within the data center.

InfoRelay currently has 18 redundant data centers including ORD1, that are spread across the United States, in markets such as Washington DC, Ashburn VA, Los Angeles CA, Dallas TX, Miami FL, New York NY and San Jose CA.
