PRLog - Dec. 10, 2012 - DELHI, India -- Satire “The One Percent Agency” written by  Tabish Khair and Directed By Sohaila Kapur, will be performed on Saturday, December 15, 6:30 p.m. at Shri Ram Centre, New Delhi  and on Sunday, December 23rd 2012 at at Epicentre, Gurgaon at 7:00  P.M.

The play is a Katyayani And Imp Entertainment Presentation.

‘The One Percent Agency’  is the first play by Tabish Khair, winner of the All India Poetry Prize, whose critically acclaimed fiction has been shortlisted for the Encore Award (UK), the Vodafone Crossword Prize, the Hindu Best Fiction Prize, the DSC Prize for South Asia (India), the Man Asian Literary Prize (Hong Kong) etc, and translated into several languages.

After Monsoon Wedding and similar films, Indian weddings have become international affairs — attracting many tourists from the West. THE ONE PERCENT AGENCY is set in this new cosmopolitan India of wedding tourism, in the fascinating present of a vibrant country that is also shaped by its syncretic and at times conflicting past. A cutting satire on how the West consumes ‘exotic’ spectacles like ‘Indian Weddings’, it is also a loving comedy of attitudes — between Indians of different backgrounds. As a tourism agency struggles to provide its Western patrons with exactly the wedding that they have ordered, the complex realities of India intervene and create a love story of another sort altogether. A hilarious play not about the East meeting the West but about the East meeting the East!

The “One Percent”, the name for a wedding agency, is actually a statistic-- the divorce rate in India, which the protagonists claim is incredibly low.. The agency caters to Western tourists who want to attend the Great Indian Wedding, the demand for which has now risen since the success of films like Monsoon Wedding.

A dramatised reading was organized by Yatrik, on March 10, at Open Air Amphitheater at India Habitat Centre, 7 p.m.  Full production, opening on Sat, Dec 15, 6:30 p.m. at Shri Ram Centre and second show at Epicentre, Gurgaon at 7 p.m., on Sun, Dec 23. Tickets at venues, rates: 350, 250 & 150.

The Casr includes Neeraj Yadav, Gautam Mehra, Sonali Sharma, Shalini Singh, Dhruv Raj Gupta, Pallav Chander, Tarique Hassan, Ankaa Nath, Nand Chopra & Sohaila Kapur
