Dec. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Raleigh Soroptimists have selected clients served by the Wake County branch of The Salvation Army to be recipients of their annual Christmas Angels program.  The beneficiaries are being assisted by The Salvation Army of Wake County’s initiative, Project FIGHT, Freeing Individuals Gripped by Human Trafficking.

Soroptimists have a long history of working to end violence against women and girls and raising awareness about human trafficking. So it is particularly appropriate that children of rescued victims of human trafficking will receive gifts through the Raleigh Soroptimist Christmas Angels program.

The Soroptimist Christmas Angels program grew out of a mentoring project for head-of-household parents in an at-risk neighborhood. Through that program, members realized these parents had limited transportation and funds to shop for their children’s Christmas gifts. Christmas Angels is a favorite tradition of the club.

Christine Shaw, Director of Social Ministries for The Salvation Army says, “We are so grateful for the donations provided by Soroptimist International of Raleigh, NC, for families affected by human trafficking in our area. Many of the children in these families have never truly experienced the joy of opening a gift that was purchased just for them on Christmas morning. Thanks to the Raleigh Soroptimists, we can make sure they experience that moment of joy this year.”

Raleigh Soroptimists are excited to partner with The Salvation Army of Wake County to provide gifts to these families who are working hard to get reestablished in society.
