Over 170 international and regional companies attended EAOGS including ministries, NOCs, IOCs, service companies, leading consulting and contracting companies, financial and legal institutions, government authorities , embassies and industry associations. This prestigious delegation of senior level industry professionals and government officials attended from 29 countries; Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mozambique, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Trinidad, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States.
The Managing Director, National Oil Company, Kenya, Sumayya Hassan – Atthmani was impressed with the international delegation present saying, ‘’The first East Africa Oil & Gas Summit has been a great success. It has presented tremendous networking opportunities with many different players across the industry and from many different countries.’’ Sumayya Atthmani chaired the session on opportunities in Kenya and spoke in the session on infrastructure opportunities in East Africa. She explained the need for collaboration between countries across the region in infrastructure development and financing in order to bring newly discovered oil and gas resources to resources to market.
Further Presentations at the summit were given from a high calibre line-up of government and regional and international industry experts including Hon. Vice Minister Abdul Razak Noormahomed, Ministry of Mineral Resources, Mozambique who took part in the Ministerial Addresses on the Opportunities and Challenges in the region, Andrew Jupiter, President, National Energy Corporation, Trinidad & Tobago who gave a case study of Trinidad and Tobago’s Oil & Gas experience, Elly Karuhanga, President, Tullow Uganda gave a presentation entitled ‘From frustration to reality, a case study for East Africa’, Keith Hill, CEO & Director, Africa Oil Corporation who spoke from an international companies perspective on sustainable economic development and Rob Andrew, Managing Director, Newport Africa who gave a presentation on security threats to oil and gas operations in East Africa which was followed by an interactive discussion on the issues raised.
Speakers gave excellent feedback on their experience at the Summit, ‘’The East Africa Oil & Gas Summit gave the East Africa Captains of industry and government the opportunity to network, meet and talk about the opportunities in the Oil & Gas Sector’ said Elly Karunhanga, President, Tullow Uganda and Malcolm Graham-Wood, Senior Advisor at VSA Capital praised the seniority of the speaker panel and the participation of the energy ministers, ‘This Summit has really put Kenya on the map, this is the summit where the energy ministers have stayed the course and the speaking panel is absolutely first rate.’
Delegates also gave positive feedback on the quality of the speakers, presentations and on the networking opportunities ‘There have been more networking opportunities at this event than in the last 3 other events we attended ‘ said Jamie Cliffe, Business Development Manager, SMTS.
EAOGS gained widespread media attention with attendance by all the major TV channels, radio stations and newspapers across East Africa. EAOGS was widely reported on TV channels, radio and in press and international industry publications online and offline.
