Dec. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- The St. Joseph County Emergency Food and Shelter Board, directed by United Way of St. Joseph County Financial Stability Division, announced this week that it has completed the allocations process for 2012 Phase 30 Emergency Food and Shelter grant funds that will be received over the next two months. Emergency Food and Shelter dollars are earmarked for local non profit organizations that support essential services that help hungry and homeless families and those in immediate crisis.

Emergency Food and Shelter funds are unique because they assist families up to 250% of the poverty level and typically and most assistance caps at 150% poverty. Consequently, these dollars are critical for the underemployed and newly unemployed families in our community since this particular population traditionally has difficulty gaining needed assistance. With the addition of these grant dollars, utility and rent assistance will be more readily available for these individuals.

For many agencies, these grant dollars will offset expenditures that have already occurred. For others, it will create the ability for them to provide more assistance.  Agencies have until March of 2013 to spend the grant funds they receive. Below is a detailed breakdown of allocated funds by agency and dollar amount.
