Kids Music Videos Celebrate Hanukkah Traditions From Around The World

Two new kids music videos by popular children’s performer, DARIA share world traditions of Hanukkah.

Dec. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- This year, Hanukkah begins on December 8th and people of the Jewish faith all over the world are preparing to celebrate the festival of lights.  Many mixed families that celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah are enjoying special holiday preparations and still others want to learn more about what this holiday means.  One increasingly popular way of sharing holiday traditions is through kids songs and videos such as DARIA’s Oh Dreydl (Drediel) or her version of a Hanukkah song from Spain – Ocho Candelikas.

DARIA’s popular Oh Dreydl video from Youtube shows a colorful version of the spinning top from the dreidel game and shares what each of the letters mean and how the game is played.  Each side or face of the top has a Hebrew letter and together they create a message. Loosely translated, the letters say: There (meaning it happened in Israel) Happened A Great Miracle!  Each letter also tells you to either pass your turn, put a treat in the center, take half the pot, or win the whole pile of goodies! Many parents who are online with their kids find these types of music videos to be a fun way of identifying the letters or learning the rules of the game with their kids!  You can view that video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52p0NGhQfPI&list=UUImO...

Ocho Candelikas, A Hanukkah Song from Spain is from the Sephartic Jewish tradition and is sung in Ladino – a language that mixes Hebrew and Spanish.  Although this might seem a bit exotic, DARIA has created English verses that translate the song and the video shows many things that are universal to all Hanukkah celebrations such as lighting the eight candles (ocho candelikas), exchanging gifts and gathering with family and friends.  See it at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eobjFKNnMOg&list=UUImO...

World music children’s performer DARIA (Daria Marmaluk-Hajioannou) has created these two videos about Hanukkah as part of her Celebrate The Season, Songs For Merry Multicultural Mirth cd.  The holiday cd also includes a variety of Christmas favorites including  “Feliz Navidad”, a German Christmas carol and a version of Jingle Bells that shares holiday greetings in 18 different languages.

Aside from spreading holiday cheer, DARIA has spent the last two decades performing in the US and around the world, creating music to inspire all the world’s children.  Along with numerous national awards for her culturally diverse music, Daria’s website (www.dariamusic.com) was given a 2009 Parent’s Choice Award and offers resources for teachers, parents and kids of all abilities.  Along with bilingual versions of popular world music songs,  Daria’s “I Have A Dream” Song is used widely to celebrate MLK Day.  Her Earth Day anthem “We’ve Got The Whole World In Our Hands” is used in the US as well as in  Singapore and Japan. Her “Beautiful Rainbow World” song is used in Australia as part of a “Respecting Others” curriculum as well as in South African schools as part of a “Teach Tolerance” initiative.
