Hanley Investment Group joined a global movement to help raise awareness for men’s cancers, specifically prostate cancer, by growing moustaches as a team starting on November 1st. These men, known as "Mo Bros," groomed and trimmed their moustaches to effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Supported by the women in their lives, "Mo Sistas," Movember Mo Bros raised funds by seeking out sponsorships for their moustache- growing efforts.
Hanley Investment Group had a goal of raising $10,000 for the cause, doubling the company's from 2011, and raised over $13,000 this year. The group ranked #109 in over 15,000 teams nationwide. Edward Hanley, the captain of the team, ranked #44 as an individual Mo Bro fundraiser amongst more than 200,000 participants. Proceeds are directed to programs run directly by Movember and their men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG Foundation.
“We are a close group that enjoys a culture of camaraderie and competition, so it was great to come to work and show off our moustache progress or, in some cases, the lack thereof due to being 'follicly challenged,'”
Hanley added, “It feels good to make this kind of difference in our community and help save lives."
According to Movember, 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. 1 in 2 men, and 1 in 3 women, will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. In 2012, 242,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed and more than 28,000 men will die of prostate cancer. 24% of men are less likely to go the doctor compared to women. In 2011, over 854,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world participated in Movember, raising $126.3 million USD.
Over the Christmas holidays, Hanley Investment Group plans to serve a hot meal to those in need through the Orange County Rescue Mission. “Hanley Investment Group has had another successful year,” said William B.
