Divorce Attorney In San Diego On Divorce and Stress

John Griffith, a divorce attorney in San Diego, investigates recent studies concerning the link between divorce and stress.

PRLog - Dec. 5, 2012 - SAN DIEGO -- SAN DIEGO - Divorce can entail every part of the spouses' lives whenever they begin separating, especially their health. Michigan State University sociologist Hui Liu's study provides a glimmer of hope to many divorcing couples.
Liu's curiosity concerning the growing trend in "gray divorce"—divorce between baby boomer couples - inspired her to question divorce's effects on health, especially compared to younger divorced couples. Liu's study discovered couples that divorced later in life are healthier than those divorcing before the age of 44.

"Older couples typically take a more mature approach to divorce, resulting in diminished hostility toward each other," said John Griffith, a divorce attorney in San Diego providing child support services.  This approach helps reduce the stress that divorce often entails." Divorcing couples should not lose hope, despite the many studies proving divorce's negative health effects. According to Liu in an interview with Health Day News, she found that being divorced may not necessarily result in damaged health, but the transition from marriage to divorce hurts health during that short period
Liu studied 1,282 participants in the Americans' Changing Lives survey, focusing on self-reports of their health. After compiling data, Liu evaluated the health reports of those who divorced during the 15 years the survey continued against those who remained married.

"Divorcing couples can take certain measures to reduce the stress effect on their health," said Griffith, a divorce lawyer in Encinitas with Griffith & Young's family lawyers. "I tell my clients to participate in a hobby like yoga, a book club or recreational sports league—a hobby that relaxes them." (http://www.sandiego-divorce-law.com/family-law-mediation/)

Spouses may alleviate significant stresses linked to the divorce, but that doesn't result in a full health recovery.
Director of the Population Research Center Mark Hayward told CNN Health divorce is a significant stressor for anyone. The stress endures from the beginning of the divorce until sometime later, even after everything is settled. Divorce stress alters the key cardiovascular process, putting a strain on the participant's health.
