Nissan is Auctioning Off a Special Usain Bolt Themed GT-R

Nissan has donated a special edition gold plated GT-R to a charity auction. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Usain Bolt Foundation.

Dec. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- The renowned automaker and the world’s fastest man announced their partnership in Yokohama, Japan. The gold plated 2013 Nissan GT-R (http://www.libertyvillenissan.com/2013-nissan-gt-r.aspx) will be sold to the winner of a weeklong auction on eBay Motors that is scheduled to start November 22 and end on Sunday, December 2. All of the proceeds will benefit the Usain Bolt Foundation, which works to create educational and cultural opportunities for children in Jamaica, where Bolt is from.

Usain Bolt has become an international superstar as the single fastest person ever. He has earned this title with an unprecedented three gold medals for the 100 and 200 meter and 400 meter relay in a single Olympics, not once, but twice, at both Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012. Each gold medal in Beijing was a world record, all of which he still holds.

The one of a kind gold plated Bolt GT-R is inspired by his Olympic wins. Bolt’s partnership with Nissan began in 2012 when he signed on as a brand ambassador. He has recently been promoted to honorary "Director of Excitement" as part of Nissan’s “What IF_” campaign.

Bolt said of the charity auction: "This project excites me because it brings together my passion for speed and excellence, and my desire to help kids and young people.” The pairing makes sense in many ways. Nissan is an industry leader in automotive design and innovation.

The GT-R represents the pinnacle of forward thinking performance automotive engineering. It has been widely, critically acclaimed and collecting awards like Motor Trend Car of the Year, International Car of the Year, and many more. It is in the Guinness Book of World Records with the fastest 0-60 mph acceleration time for a four seat production vehicle.

Both Nissan and Usain Bolt are leaders in their respective fields. Nissan is extremely innovative with hybrid cars and the first affordable, large-scale production, all electric vehicles the Nissan Leaf. (http://www.libertyvillenissan.com/2013-nissan-leaf.aspx) As a pair, Usain Bolt and Nissan hope to give children in Jamaica chances they don’t currently have for a better education and the opportunity to participate in sports. In true sporting fashion, Bolt said he would even hope to someday see a “Second Bolt” competing to unseat him as the worlds fastest.
