From CIA to Motorola: Develop Intelligence That Leads to Smarter Strategic Decisions – SCIP DC

Jan Herring, a former CIA officer and director of intelligence at Motorola, will show how to develop a competitive intelligence function that leads to improved competitiveness, better decision-making, and effective strategic planning.

Dec. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- A pioneer and leading consultant in the field of business intelligence, Jan Herring will share his experience in creating an intelligence function at Motorola, including a review of the obstacles and challenges faced when first establishing a competitive intelligence group and culture. He will also provide suggestions to improve the success rate for those efforts to set up internal intelligence functions, such as recommendations on approaches that work (and don’t), how to set goals, and effective methods for remaining relevant in the constantly-changing business environment.

The meeting will be held in McLean, VA at Northrop Grumman Information Systems from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 6. Registration fee is $10 for SCIP members and $20 for non-members.

About the Speaker

Jan Herring was an intelligence officer with the CIA for 20 years where he set up the federal government's first unit that analyzed the impact of foreign civilian technology on the U.S. economy. Later, at Motorola, he developed a business-intelligence function based on his national security experience.   Jan created and ran The Futures Group's Business Intelligence Practice for ten years. Jan and Ben Gilad established the Academy of Competitive Intelligence, where Jan continues to lecture on the topic of "Organizing and Managing World Class CI Programs." Jan is a recipient of the SCIP Meritorious Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Society.
