Dr. Irfan Furniturewala, Promoter, Hanjer Biotech Energies, said, “Hanjer Green Run is a unique 5 km mini marathon to create awareness in Mumbai about the urgent need for proper disposal and recycling of municipal waste in the city to reduce the increasing risk of various life threatening diseases such as malaria, dengue, etc. The recent death of revered film maker, Yash Chopra, who passed away after suffering from dengue is a case in point. These diseases are caused due to non efficient measures to dispose garbage and waste products.” He added, “The Hanjer Green Run is a wake up initiative to spread message through this marathon to join Hanjer in saving the environment and improving public health by handling waste responsibility. We genuinely feel that the leading film personalities in Bollywood can play a major role in spreading the awareness. The Hanjer initiative is an ideal platform for the entire film fraternity in Mumbai to come together and deliberate on the important measures that need to be taken to protect the environment and the public health. We are grateful to Hon. Mayor of Mumbai Shri Sunil Prabhu and film personalities who are supporting this noble cause of creating awareness amongst citizens.”

Hanjer Green Run is an effort to effect a much needed change in the way people perceive waste and project it  as a positive resource, which can yield precious value. Hanjer’s objective is to awaken the conscience within every citizen and make each one believe that change starts with a single person- you. These simple efforts from citizens can help keep the city cleaner and greener providing for a better quality of life, was their message to the audience.

As a part of its corporate social responsibility and to create awareness of correct disposal of waste, Hanjer has created ‘The Green Heart project’ which includes various community programs such as ‘Trash Bash- celebrating waste’, ‘Trash Buster- an educative game on waste segregation’ and ‘Green Earth- Save the soil’, to increase awareness in cities on better and more responsible handling of waste with long term benefits to environment and quality of life. All these activities are spearheaded by a mascot named "Hanjer Girl", a smart and friendly character which identifies with the youth of today. She is a responsible and conscious citizen who interacts with people to join her in good practices of creating a ‘Green and Healthy City’.

To play the free Hanjer Trash Buster game, web surfers can visit the Hanjer website (www.hanjer.com) or log on to ‘www.facebook.com/hanjerhere’ on Facebook, and follow ‘Hanjer Girl’ - the smart young mnemonic for Hanjer’s Green initiatives such as Trash Bash, and click on Trash Buster. They can also get useful tips from the attractive ‘Hanjer Girl’ on how to make the world greener. ‘Trash Buster’ helps players understand how Hanjer’s unique waste processing, recycling and resource recovery model helps cities manage their waste more efficiently and reduce land dumping. It explains how waste can be transformed into energy, compost and other green and recyclable products.
