The 1st Infantry Division of the United States Army is by far the oldest infantry division in the United States Army. From 1917 to the present it has seen continuous service and has been called for deployment in every major engagement and war from World War 1, World War 2, Korea, Vietnam, First Gulf War, Balkans, Iraq with Operation Iraqi Freedom on several occasions and zip code changes with deployment to Afghanistan.

It has been forever memorialized as the "Big Red One" or "the Fighting First" as a result of its bright number 1 seen on its shoulder patch. It is currently garrisoned at Fort Riley, Kansas.
