Dec. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY -- The Club at Briarcliff Manor, the region’s premier senior living community under development in Briarcliff Manor, recently sponsored a concert by the Westchester Chamber Music Society featuring the renowned Tokyo String Quartet. The concert will be one of the quartet’s last, as the 2012-2013 season will be its final season.

The concert, which was held November 4th at Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester in Rye, featured works by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Ravel.   The concert opened with remarks to the audience from Shelley Lotter from The Club at Briar cliff Manor, who acknowledged all of those in the audience and the area who had experienced and were still remedying the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy.  “We are fortunate this afternoon to hear some of the finest musicians in the world, to enjoy the company of friends and family and also to have heat!” she said. “The Club at Briarcliff Manor is very pleased to sponsor this incredible concert and to support the WCMS again this year, she added.  The performance was followed by a reception at which everyone had an opportunity to meet and talk with the musicians and the Sponsor’s representative from The Club.

Formed in 1969 at the Juilliard School of Music, the Tokyo String Quartet has performed extensively throughout the world and has recorded more than 40 albums with various music labels. Since 1976 the Quartet has served as the quartet-in-residence at Yale University’s School of Music.

The ensemble performs on the “Paganini Quartet”, a group of renowned Stradivarius instruments named for legendary virtuoso Niccolo Paganini. The instruments have been on loan to the quartet from the Nippon Music Foundation since 1995.

“We are very grateful for the generous support of The Club at Briarcliff Manor in helping us bring to Westchester this world-class string quartet. We are thrilled to have been able to bring one of the most notable chamber groups to Westchester in their last season,” said Dr. Caroline Bauman, President of the Westchester Chamber Music Society.

The Westchester Chamber Music Society, which is celebrating its 61st anniversary this year, has been committed to bringing first-rate artists to Westchester, which have included the Tokyo String Quartet, the Ariel String Quartet and renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
