Dodge Walks Away From NASCAR With a Championship

Keselowski entered the final race with over a 20-point lead on five-time champ Jimmie Johnson, meaning that he had to stay out of trouble for the last 60 miles of the race, a feat which he easily accomplished.

This is the first Cup championship for Dodge since 1975, when Richard Petty brought them home a title, although Keselowski may take a bit more meaning from his victory considering that Dodge announced their withdrawal from NASCAR after the end of the current season. They can now rest assured that they'll go out with a bang. The decision stemmed primarily from Penske's announcement that it was moving to Ford in 2013 just days after the opening of the season with the Daytona 500.


Dodge has not ruled out a return to NASCAR, perhaps in the second-tier Nationwide Series, but as of now, they are out of the races. Dodge's official statement is that they had a very unique situation with regard to Penske and that it would take something just as special for them to rejoin NASCAR.
